Closure

Using your favourite metaphor, describe the most important lesson that you had learnt in your EIR journey.

The Internet is like a labyrinth. Danger and treasures lurk at every turn, and only the experienced can get through to the end and accomplish what they came for. The ever-growing amount of information posted onto the Web has both pros and cons. On one hand, there is a huge resource to look through, but on the other, the resources are cluttered with useless/irrelevant materials. One has to know how to look, otherwise it would be a tedious process. Dangerous and inappropriate sites also exist and the unwary may get into trouble. That is what i have learned in EIR: refining searches, as well as how certain aspects of the Internet affect lives(cyber-bullying).

Write a paragraph summarizing your findings on your research topic.

My research topic is Cyber-bullying and Internet Users. It wasnt very hard to find as there are quite a few organisations currently trying to curb this act. I have found out that cyberbullying is quite prevalent more developed countries like the US and Singapore, and some cases like Megan Meier's are severe. Much advice is to be found on the net for those who need it, they cover prevention and responses which better prepare people faced with the threat of cyberbullying. There are also forums where victims can share their stories and have support from the community to get through their situation. Cyberbullying does not seem like it will fade anytime soon in this digital age. Unless people are willing to show respect to others, societal problems like this will continue.

Dream Holiday

I have never really thought much about holidays, but when i was tasked with this, i started wondering where i would like to go. I have always wanted to go to a place in Europe, as it seemed to be a place with a nice atmosphere about it. Paris, London and Rome were some of the more familiar places i know. However, i didn't have the feel for them, and that was when Venice occurred to me through my friend. Venice, the city of water, its quite a unique place in that sense. It has had some interesting history too, which i know some parts of, thanks to Social Studies in Secondary 4. I would say the scenery is great too, from my indirect experiences of it, like in movies(The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), it would definitely be a great place for photos. Being rich in history and culture, there are also many museums and buildings of interest where i can spend my time, since i'm not a big fan of shopping. The carnivals there also intrigue me, as they have been made out to be really interesting. I would surely hope to attend one. No plans yet though.):

Laguna Sud-Aquatic park
Church of Madonna dell'Orto
Ca' Pesaro

The web site evaluated is http://www.turismovenezia.it.

The most important criteria is coverage, as i need to get the information necessary for me to make my plans. The website has good coverage as it includes current events in Venice, places of interest, information on accommodation, pictures, and other assorted information. The various links it provides are also useful, such as one to a map and another for weather.
Currency is also a factor to consider as one would want to have the latest updated information about air tickets and accommodations.
It is also easily accessible as no logging in is required and users have free access to all information. It also has an english version of the site, making it easy for foreigners.

Stomp

Which criteria did you use to evaluate Stomp.sg? Why did you choose this criteria? What lessons have you learnt from this activity?

Coverage. The content is the most important part of a news report. Trivial news wouldn't mean much, and that occurs quite frequently in Stomp. Other than that it would be the comments, where some are not well thought out, and are basically trash talk that doesnt contribute at all.
